Newcastle fans aren’t enjoying continuing Sean Longstaff links to Man United

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle United fans are not enjoying reports that Manchester United are closing in on a summer move for midfielder Sean Longstaff.

The Mirror reported on Friday that the Old Trafford side are confident of sealing a £25m deal for the player during the transfer window, with a potential takeover of the Magpies not a barrier to the move.

The paper reckon that Longstaff fits the signing profile of players that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for, being a young British talent with high potential who can improve and grow in Manchester.

Newcastle fans though obviously feel he is a player that can be built around in a new era at St James’ Park, impressed by his early career performances in the top-flight last season.

The report has left many dejected, feeling that the club should be rejecting any and all bids for the promising 21-year-old.

These supporters have taken to Twitter over the last 48 hours to share their thoughts on it all…

Sterling and Brown respond to Alli’s latest holiday snap

Tottenham Hotspur starlet Dele Alli is still enjoying his holiday with Borussia Dortmund’s wunderkind Jadon Sancho. The tandem has now met with Umar Kamani in Melrose Avenue, as Alli’s latest

Naturally, when superstars meet, it attracts a lot of attention and this snap was no different. Players and fans alike were quick to react to it in the comment section below.

Raheem Sterling, who is still on a holiday himself, has responded to the picture calling the lads “star boys”, as the tandem was seen taking a photo with Kamani, CEO & Founder of PrettyLittleThing, a UK-based fashion retailer.

Izzy Brown, who spent last season in Leeds United’s treatment room while on loan from Chelsea, was also on the scene, and simply called Alli and Sancho top tier, followed by a single emoji.

Despite his big name and even higher potential, Alli has had a rocky season with Tottenham. The 2018/19 campaign ended with two bitter defeats for the young Englishman, first at club and then international level.

He was beaten by Liverpool in the Champions League final and then crashed out of the Nations League with England.

It was a rough year and Alli very much deserves a step away from football, with his fellow superstars clearly in agreement.

Liverpool fans react after club reject chance to sign Marcos Llorente

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool confirmed their first signing of the transfer window on Thursday afternoon, bringing 17-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg to the club.

It looks as though it could be a quiet summer, however, after it was also revealed that they rejected the chance to sign Marcos Llorente.

The midfielder eventually signed for Atletico Madrid but per SER Deportivos, Liverpool turned down the opportunity to bring him to Anfield.

Reacting to news that he wasn’t a ‘priority’ for the Reds, one supporter claimed that it was a fair decision whilst another said they agreed with what Liverpool had done.

However, other supporters were concerned by their lack of activity in the window. One fan talked about squad depth, saying the club would be stuck with players like Adam Lallana, whilst a further individual simply said they still need to sign players.

Llorente is rated at £18m per Transfermarkt but only played seven times in La Liga ahead of his move to Atletico.

A defensive midfielder, it perhaps would have been a questionable signing anyway given they already have Fabinho in their ranks.

Wolves would take a big risk by letting Cavaleiro leave imminently

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Wolves Bite, Derby County want to sign forward Ivan Cavaleiro this summer as they look to prise him away from the Midlands outfit.

What’s the word?

Wolves have already agreed to let one fringe player leave this summer, seeing Helder Costa depart for Leeds on an initial loan deal.

However, another individual they seem keen on letting go is Cavaleiro.

The Portuguese, who was once the club’s record signing, could leave either permanently or on loan during the course of the transfer window.

Per a report from Wolves Bite, he is said to be wanted by Derby but he’s also attracted the interest of both Fulham and Huddersfield in the past too.

Wolves need to pause

If Nuno allows Cavaleiro to leave imminently it could be a huge risk.

The 5 foot 9 winger was incredibly inconsistent last term, scoring just three goals and claiming a solitary assist despite starting just six times in the league, but Wolves need to park this potential exit for the time being.

The reason behind this is the fact that they’ve yet to add anyone to their squad.

In a few weeks’ time, the Midlands outfit will embark on their Europa League voyage but having used just 21 players in the top-flight last term, could struggle for numbers in the early parts of their season.

Therefore, unless a replacement is signed, they could be making a blunder by allowing him to depart ahead of their European qualifiers.

The fact of the matter is that unless Wolves decide to go with young players, they are lacking many genuine options in forward areas. Even then, solely relying on academy products could be a risk.

Gareth Bale to Wolves? Wolves Fan TV discuss how ambitious Nuno Espirito Santo will be this summer in the video below…

Cavaleiro had a poor 2018/19 but with Raul Jimenez only just finishing international duty with Mexico at the Gold Cup, it’s likely he’ll need an extended break before returning.

That will again further limit their options in attack.

Behind Diogo Jota and Jimenez, the 25-year-old was their third-highest-scoring attacker. With three goals it’s hardly an outstanding number but he could prove useful in the early stages of continental competition.

Nuno, therefore, must avoid taking a risk and wait before agreeing to a permanent or temporary transfer.

David Beckham takes to Instagram to send support to Lionesses

[ad_pod ]

It was just not meant to be. After a tough and tiring 90 minutes against the United States of America, England’s women’s team was defeated 2-1 by the current holders in a fiery semi-final clash.

Being just a couple of steps away from glory, this defeat hurts a lot but the Lionesses can be proud of what they have achieved throughout the coveted tournament, and losing to the defending champions is no embarrassment at all.

Many stars took to social media to send their best regards to England after a valiant defeat and David Beckham was one of them. The ex-Manchester United icon posted a snap on

Beckham’s long message certainly struck a note with both the fans and some other stars as they quickly complimented the ex-footballer for his effort of comforting their fallen warriors.

The likes of Tom Brady and even England’s official account were there to support Beckham as he himself seemed a bit gloomy after the result.

Arsenal fans react as Edu confirmed as technical director

[ad_pod ]

After the departure of Arsene Wenger last summer, it was clear Arsenal needed to shake things up off the pitch as well.

The north London side had long been run by one authoritative figurehead and the Frenchman’s exit allowed for a much-needed revamp.

Reports in recent months had suggested that the club were looking to appoint a technical director and there were suggestions that names like Monchi and Marc Overmars were being lined up.

Now, the Gunners have confirmed that former general coordinator of Brazil, Edu, will take up the position and will  “oversee the work of first-team coaches, the academy and player scouting and recruitment”.

After hearing the confirmation, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the choice of appointment and many were seemingly excited for the future.

Gunners supporters felt that with Edu finally through the door, the rest of the summer transfer window could finally kick into gear in terms of the necessary incomings and outgoings.

Indeed, some fans urged the Brazilian to look to his native country and bring in some of the talent that shined at the Copa America, like Brazil’s Everton Soares.

Check out some of the excited reaction of Arsenal fans below:

West Brom fans want the club to pay up for Matheus Pereira

[ad_pod ]

West Brom have started to make traction in the transfer market after the additions of Kenneth Zohore and Semi Ajayi but a move for Sporting CP’s Brazilian winger Matheus Pereira looks to have stalled for the time being, according to Matt Wilson of the Express & Star.

Slaven Bilic is keen to sign Pereira on a season-long loan this summer with an option to buy if it all goes well at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

However, it is thought that the Portuguese club want a £9m obligation fee installed in the deal regardless of whether the Baggies win promotion to the Premier League.

A number of fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the latest update with many suggesting the club should just pay up.

One supporter referenced the fact the club signed Oliver Burke for £15m so they should be signing Pereira for less.

The Brazilian was on loan at Nurnberg last season as they were relegated from the Bundesliga. He made 21 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and assisting two more – playing on both flanks as well as in attacking midfield.

Manchester United: Club very, very interested in Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti

Manchester United are very, very interested in Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti as a backup to Harry Maguire, according to Le10 Sport (via Sport Witness).

It is being reported by the French publication that the Old Trafford giants would be willing to put down a bid just short of the Catalan club’s valuation of the France international.

However, Manchester United aren’t the only club in the north-west interested in Umtiti, with rivals Manchester City also said to have made an enquiry for the 25-year-old.

The interest in Umtiti comes after a hold up in negotiations with Leicester City for Maguire, which is said to have the player feeling furious.

With the holdup in negotiations with Leicester City, having a contingency plan is beneficial for the club. It seems the former Olympique Lyonnais man forms part of a centre-back target list. Just last week the club were said to have made a bid for Benfica centre-half Ruben Dias, as well as having been linked with moves for West Ham United’s Issa Diop and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

Given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side’s poor defensive record last season, reinforcements are a must. However, the Frenchman comes with one big red flag and that is his recent injury history. In the last two seasons, Umtiti has missed 40 games, 28 last season and 12 in the 2017/2018 season.

While Manchester United definitely need reinforcements in defence, Umtiti is ultimately not the man for them. Maguire, Koulibaly, and Dias all have far better injury records and would provide less hassle than the 25-year-old in that sense.

As well as Umtiti’s injury record, he doesn’t fit the mould of what Solskjaer is seemingly attempting to build at the club: buying homegrown players. Someone like Maguire fits that mould and should be chased instead.

Manchester United fans, would Umtiti be a good alternative to Maguire? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Liverpool’s match-winner Mohamed Salah costs them in Community Shield

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

It’s rare to find a particular scapegoat in a pre-season friendly but one has to feel that Liverpool fans might be directing their anger towards Mohamed Salah after their Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.

On the chalkboard

The Egypt international, undoubtedly one of the stars of the Premier League, endured a torrid afternoon as Jurgen Klopp’s men were beaten on penalties at Wembley after a 1-1 draw.

Across the 90 minutes, Salah had 10 shots on goal, per WhoScored.

For context, that’s more than the entirety of City’s team, who registered eight.

He did hit the woodwork twice and brought a genuinely incredible goal-line clearance out of Kyle Walker in injury time, but he had just four shots on target.

He also saw two shots blocked and, really, the numbers are all the more remarkable when it is considered that Salah touched the ball 60 times. That means that for every six touches, he had a shot on goal.

The winger also passed the ball 24 times; less than any other Liverpool player to start the game.

But with his lack of end product, Salah ultimately cost the Reds through his profligacy.

Too greedy

Two of Salah’s passes came in the box.

By comparison, six of his shots were inside the 18-yard area and four more were from outside.

Could he have passed more?

Of course, it depends on the in-game situation and the team-mates he has available to him but one has to feel that, if he had got his head up and tried to find a fellow Red, he might have been able to.

As it was, because of his desire to constantly shoot, it was Virgil van Dijk who ended up providing the vital assist to Joel Matip in the area, lofting a lovely cross into his central defensive partner, who nodded home.

Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Would Salah have passed? On this evidence, it does not appear that he would have, perhaps instead he would have tried to wriggle free and taken another shot on.

The Community Shield is just a pre-season friendly at the end of the day but this will sting for the forward, who is so used to winning matches on his own.

On Sunday, he lost it.

Spurs fans desperate for club to sign Bruno Fernandes

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans are desperate for the club to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon this summer.

A report from O Jogo on Thursday claimed that Spurs had sent representatives to Portugal to negotiate a deal with the attacking midfielder ahead of the transfer deadline.

The same report claims that Manchester United are interested in the Portugal international but that Spurs are hopeful of brokering a deal to sign Fernandes.

Indeed, the 24-year-old enjoyed an exceptional season in 2018/19, netting 32 times in all competitions and registering 18 assists.

The move for Fernandes comes after repeated links with Real Betis playmaker Giovani Lo Celso.

Indeed, Football FanCast sources have confirmed that the club have been in talks with the Argentina international throughout the past month.

It remains to be seen, of course, if the interest in Fernandes is merely a ploy to get the Liga club to the negotiating table.

But fans are desperate to see him strut his stuff in north London.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!
