Better than Tanaka: Leeds ace who made 116 passes was the real hero v Luton

Leeds United moved back to the top of the Championship table on Wednesday night with a comfortable win over Luton Town at Elland Road.

The Whites secured all three points in style, with a 3-0 victory, and kicked it off with an impressive, Paulo Di Canio-esque, volley from full-back Sam Byram.

Joel Piroe made it 2-0 just before half-time with a close-range poacher’s finish, before Dan James wrapped up the win with a terrific lobbed finish off the bench in the second half.

One of the team’s top performers on the night was not directly involved in any of those goals, however, as Ao Tanaka once again impressed in midfield.

Ao Tanaka's performance against Luton

The Japan international was constantly available to his teammates in the middle of the park and ended the 90 minutes with an eye-catching 114 out of 120 passes completed.

Tanaka, who had 135 touches of the ball, was always looking to take responsibility to progress the play for his side and played his passes quickly to put Luton on the back foot.

The former Fortuna Dusseldorf star was also strong out of possession. He won five of his seven ground duels, although lost his only aerial contest, to make three tackles and two interceptions to cut out Luton attacks.

These statistics illustrate how important he was to the side in and out of possession, despite not being directly involved in any major moments.

There was one Leeds player, however, who provided similar qualities on and off the ball and was even better than Tanaka – centre-back Pascal Struijk.

Performance in Numbers

Pascal Struijk's performance against Luton

The Whites captain was the real hero for Daniel Farke’s side on the night with his terrific showing at the heart of the defence, as he showcased his ability on both sides of the game.

His biggest moment in the match came just after Leeds had taken the lead through Byram, as the defender incredibly cleared a shot that seemed destined for the back of the net off his own goal line, after it had been dinked over Illan Meslier

The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth described it as an “acrobatic” clearance and started his post with “WOW”, which was also the collective response heard from the crowd afterward.

As you can see in the table above, Struijk also completed more passes and won more duels than Tanaka, whilst he was not dribbled past a single time by the Luton players.

These statistics show that the Dutch titan dominated the game with his defensive work and helped to control and dictate the match with his use of the ball.

Couple that with his miraculous clearance to prevent the away side from drawing level at 1-0 up and that is why he was Farke’s real hero and even better than Tanaka on Wednesday night.

Tense political situation could force PCB to shift white-ball series out of Rawalpindi

The PCB is mulling Lahore as the new venue, with Rawalpindi-Islamabad set to be the focal point of massive rallies over coming weeks

Umar Farooq16-Mar-2022The tense political climate in Pakistan’s capital could cause the PCB to relocate the white-ball series against Australia out of Rawalpindi, with Lahore likely to be the new venue. Fury said of the exciting venture: "Tyson Fury: England manager. Who would ever have thought it? I have had some big fights in my career and the prospect of leading my England team to victory this June fills me with just as much excitement as any heavyweight fight.

"Everyone knows that I am a huge Manchester United fan too, so it’s even more special for me that the game is at Old Trafford this year – and I get to manage one of my heroes, Wayne Rooney. How can we lose? The work Unicef does all around the world is so special and so important. I really hope that you can come along and support us this summer."

While confirming his participation, Rooney added: "I enjoyed the last time I was involved at Soccer Aid so much that when the call came for the 2025 match it was a really easy decision. I’m a big boxing fan, so to do it alongside Tyson Fury is fantastic. It really sums up how brilliant Soccer Aid is.

"We have this in common: we’ll both be taking it incredibly seriously. Obviously it’s great to lace-up the old boots again – and see some old friends – but the cause is the real reason we are doing this. Unicef needs our help. Tottenham dealt new Cristian Romero to Real Madrid worry after fresh update

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a new worry over star defender Cristian Romero and his potential switch to Real Madrid, after a fresh update on the Argentine’s future from broadcast giant talkSPORT.

Real Madrid targeting Cristian Romero as Carlo Ancelotti eyes new centre-back

The Galacticos are suffering from a fair few long-term problems in defence this season, with both Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao out for the rest of this season after sustaining ACL injuries.

David Alaba is also making his way back from an ACL injury, leaving Carlo Ancelotti desperately short in central defence for the foreseeable, and it is believed Real could look to the January transfer market for solutions.

Even when the likes of Militao and Alaba return, the La Liga champions still have to consider the long term, with Antonio Rudiger, Alaba and Carvajal all on the wrong side of 30 and potentially reaching the twilight phase of their careers soon.

Real are believed to be targeting Romero from Tottenham as one option on their shortlist of centre-backs for 2025, with Arsenal defender William Saliba also attracting interest from Ancelotti as they look to the Premier League for elite new defenders.

Spurs are trying to tie Romero down with a new contract, according to multiple media outlets, in an attempt to ward off the likes of Real and keep their star defender.

Both the South American and Micky van de Ven have formed an excellent partnership since the beginning of 2023/2024, and it is the bedrock of Ange Postecoglou’s high line, so losing either one of the duo really wouldn’t be ideal for the Australian.

Romero has missed Tottenham’s last few games with a toe injury he sustained in mid-November, with van de Ven also sidelined, leaving both Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin to fill in for the crucial pair recently.

Tottenham dealt new Cristian Romero worry after update on future

As per talkSPORT, who revealed further details on Romero and his long-term future at N17, there is a genuine concern for Postecoglou.

Indeed, it is believed that Tottenham face losing Romero next year if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, with the ex-Atalanta star keen to pit himself against Europe’s elite again after playing just a handful of games in the competition.

Ancelotti can offer that exact thing to Romero, meaning he could surely be very tempted by the prospect of quitting north London for the Bernabeu if the opportunity presents itself in 2025.

TalkSPORT describe the 26-year-old, who’s on a reported £165,000-per-week via his current contract, as “central” to Postecoglou’s long-term plans – so the possibility of his exit next year could be very damaging.

“He could play in any side in the top four of the Premier League. He is a Champions League player, a top player,” said pundit Paul Robinson to Football Insider in 2022.

“If Spurs are going to go places, Romero is the type of player they will need to keep and build around.”

Phil Foden is lucky to still be in the England squad: Outgoing Premier League and PFA Player of the Year's future at Man City no longer certain after hugely disappointing season

The 24-year-old has regressed since being crowned the best player in English football, and will now have to prove his worth all over again

"To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me," an emotional Phil Foden said after being crowned the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) men's player's player of the year for 2023-24. "I also want to pay special thanks to Pep [Guardiola], the [Manchester] City coaches and all my team-mates as they help me to try and get better every single day. Last season was another very special one for everyone at the club, but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term."

Foden was a deserving winner after recording 27 goal contributions during City's run to a record-breaking fourth-successive Premier League title. Guardiola relied on Foden, not Erling Haaland or Kevin De Bruyne, to make the difference in the biggest matches, and never missed a chance to highlight the fleet-footed attacking midfielder's importance.

"He was always a talented player, but now he is more mature and understands more the game, especially defensively. He’s unbelievable," the City boss said after Foden's two-goal masterclass in a 3-1 derby win over Manchester United last March. "Winning games is when you become a world-class player."

However, just over a year on from that dazzling performance, Foden finds himself at the opposite end of the spectrum. The 24-year-old is no longer "getting better every day"; in fact, he actually appears to be going backwards, having lost his talismanic status under Guardiola amid City's worst campaign in almost a decade.

Foden's poor form has not cost him his place in the England squad , but that could soon change. Thomas Tuchel can't afford to carry any passengers in his bid to end the Three Lions' 60 years of hurt at next year's World Cup, and that's exactly what Foden has become at City, who may already be contemplating how he fits into their long-term rebuild…

GettyHero to zero

Foden's exploits last season were made all the more impressive by the fact that 48 of his 53 appearances for City came as a starter. He also racked up 11 goal involvements across the Champions League and FA Cup, and registered a goal and an assist in City's 4-0 Club World Cup final over Brazilian giants Fluminense.

It was a herculean effort from Foden that understandably left him running on empty. He was ever-present for England at last summer's European Championship in Germany, too, so Foden's slow start to the current season was, on some level, to be expected.

Guardiola waited until the start of October to draft Foden back into his Premier League line up after seeing the playmaker battle through illness, and he produced a solid if unspectacular display in a 3-2 win over Fulham. Foden also scored in each of his first three starts in the Champions League, but that was as close as he got to building up any sort of rhythm in the first half of the campaign.

Foden didn't open his Premier League goal account until his 12th outing, on December 21, in City's 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa, which marked their ninth loss in 12 games across all competitions since November 2. The reigning champions were in crisis, and Guardiola was clear in his mind about the main reasons for their incredible fall from grace.

"We are playing this season without the best player of the Ballon d'Or, Rodri, and without the best player in England last season, Foden," It was no surprise to hear Guardiola blame City's struggles on Rodri's ACL injury, but his suggestion that Foden was no longer having any kind of meaningful impact on games unexpected and uncharacteristically brutal.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportBecoming a bench-warmer

Guardiola's strong words did appear to have the desired effect, though, as Foden reminded everyone of his class around the turn of the year. The England international scored six goals in as many Premier League games in January, including a vital effort in a 3-1 win over top-four rivals Chelsea, with Guardiola pleased to see the City academy graduate "happy again".

But Foden couldn't sustain it. He has failed to score in his last 11 appearances for City, with his performances ranging from mediocre to downright poor, and he is suddenly in real danger of becoming a regular bench-warmer. Indeed, Foden had to make do with brief cameos in the 1-0 win at Tottenham on February 26 and Saturday's 2-2 draw with Brighton.

"Listen, all the managers around the world, when they select 11 players, they have to believe that they are going to win," Guardiola replied when quizzed on his decision to name Foden among the substitutes for the Seagulls' visit to the Etihad Stadium. "I never found a manager who selects a team thinking it's going to lose. If we win I am right – if we don't, it could be better."

Guardiola has long been known for his tinkering, but more often than not, he fields his most trusted players in the most important matches. The home game against European hopefuls Brighton fell into that bracket, and Foden was once again overlooked in favour of Omar Marmoush – the £59 million ($77m) winter signing who has quickly emerged as Haaland's new right-hand man.

Getty/GOALNew-look City

Foden started unlocking his full potential after being shifted into the No.10 spot at City, but that evolution is now counting against him. Marmoush has looked far more effective in behind Haaland since his arrival at the Etihad, scoring four goals in his first seven Premier League appearances, and Foden is going to have to seriously up his game to usurp the Egyptian.

It's difficult to see Foden getting a look-in on the flanks, either, given the presence of Savinho and Jeremy Doku, plus the fact that Marmoush is also versatile enough to operate on both wings. If he doesn't snap back into life, Foden could end up an outcast at City like his England team-mate Jack Grealish, who has fallen so far down the pecking order that a summer exit feels inevitable.

Veteran trio Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan are still competing for minutes in midfield, too, while Nico Gonzalez, or 'mini-Rodri' as some fans have already dubbed him, has impressed in a holding role since his £50m ($65m) arrival from Porto on the final day of the winter window.

Guardiola is still working out how to shape his new-look side, but all the signs point to him embracing a more direct, unpredictable style of play in a bid to transform City back into Europe's most fearsome team, and it's not at all clear how Foden will figure into his plans at this stage.

AFPEuros 'frustration'

Foden's struggles can be traced back to the Euros, where he dramatically underperformed as England stumbled all the way through the final, before being taught a footballing lesson against deserved winners Spain. Foden failed to notch a single goal or assist at the tournament, rarely showed any of his usual quality on the ball, and didn't do enough to help the team without it.

However, Sir Gareth Southgate was at least partly at fault for Foden's failure. Instead of deploying Foden in the central role he'd caused so much damage in for City last term, the England boss stationed him on the left in a safety-first 4-2-3-1 system in the first four games of the tournament.

Jude Bellingham took Foden's preferred No.10 slot, and they spent most of the time getting in each other's way as England toiled for any kind of fluidity going forward. Understandably, Foden still harbours some bitterness towards Southgate for how things played out, as he told the in January: "I feel frustrated I didn’t get out what I wanted to get out of it. The position I was put in on the left was very difficult to influence the game. Coming off last season being the best player in the Premier League and playing centre midfield, I do feel the position was quite difficult to get used to. I’m one who can play multiple positions and had to try to deal with it the best I could. I don’t feel like England ever got going or performed to our potential."

Foden was certainly a victim of Southgate's pragmatism, but that doesn't excuse him for shrinking in the face of adversity. A player of Foden's calibre should have been able to rise above the limitations of the tactical blueprint and take games by the scruff of the neck when his country needed him most.

Ashwin on retiring out: 'We're late, but this will happen a lot'

He believes T20 hasn’t been “fully cracked yet” and retiring out “won’t be a stigma like running someone out at the non-striker’s end”

ESPNcricinfo staff13-Apr-20222:15

Retired out – yay or nay?

R Ashwin believes retiring out as a tactical move – which he did for the first time in the IPL recently – will not be a stigma like run-out at the non-striker’s end, and is of the view that teams are “already late” in utilising this rule.Ashwin retired out while batting for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday. He was promoted to No. 6 in the tenth over to allow the regular No. 6 Riyan Parag a more suitable point of entry. But having scored 28 off 23 towards the end of the innings, Ashwin walked off after two balls of the 19th over when Royals were 135 for 4, to make way for Parag.Related

Ashwin becomes first batter to be tactically retired out in IPL

MCC moves to de-stigmatise non-striker run-outs in latest updates

“It might work sometimes and it might not work sometimes,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. “These things happen constantly in football, and we haven’t cracked T20 cricket fully yet. This is a millennial sport. This is the next generation’s sport. In fact, if you see in football, Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo score goals frequently. But their team’s goalkeeper should also save goals and their defenders should defend well. Only then, a Messi or Ronaldo will be in the limelight.”T20, as a sport, is heading towards where football has reached. Just like how they’re using substitutions, I did something similar [retiring out]. Already we’re late, but I believe this will happen a lot in the coming days. I don’t think it will be a stigma like running someone out at the non-striker’s end.”Parag struck a six on one off the four balls he faced and Royals eventually won by a small margin of three runs.Ashwin explained he “threw the kitchen sink at everything” but was not able to score easily.1:27

Sangakkara: Ashwin himself was asking on being retired out

“It was just a tactical move,” he said. “In fact, Riyan Parag has been batting very well and when the [K] Gowtham over [16th over] ended, I gave myself some time – five to six balls – to see whether I can hit a six or two fours. There were a few balls in the slot, I tried to hit, and mistimed a bit. I threw the kitchen sink at everything, but I couldn’t get the timing going. Someone like Riyan Parag was in the shed and there were only ten balls remaining. If he comes and hits even two sixes, we could get a good score. It was a tactical decision.”Ashwin is also one of the biggest proponents of the run-out of the non-striker backing up, and was the first player in the IPL to effect the dismissal when he ran Jos Buttler out in 2019. The incident had triggered the spirit of cricket debate back although it was well within the law. But more recently, MCC made a move to de-stigmatise this mode of dismissal in the latest law updates, which will come into effect later this year.Royals captain Sanju Samson had said during the post-match presentation that they had been talking about the retiring-out move even before the season.”It’s about being Rajasthan Royals,” Sanju said. “We keep trying different things. We have been talking about it before the season. We thought that if some situation occurs, we can use it. It was a team decision.”

Man City pushing to sign tenacious £42m ace in January as Rodri replacement

Manchester City are now pushing to sign a £42 million midfielder with a “strong personality”, according to a new report. The Blues are not expected to be massively busy in the transfer window come the New Year, but one area that does need addressing is midfield, with Rodri likely to miss the whole season and İlkay Gündoğan looking a shell of his former self.

Man City are ready to sanction player departures to sign a key star.

Pep Guardiola and co. do have their eyes on two players who would be massive arrivals for them and would also send shockwaves through the Premier League. The first player City are interested in signing is Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Blues have apparently opened talks with the England international over a potential move to the Etihad. Alexander-Arnold will enter the final six months of his contract at Liverpool in January, and with no sign of a new contract being agreed, he could be on his way out of Anfield in a repeat of Raheem Sterling’s move to Manchester.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the defender and are free to talk to him in January, but City are now also keen, though they will have to wait until the end of the season before signing any deal, while foreign clubs can agree a pre-contract this winter.

Florian Wirtz looks dejected

Another player City are keen on signing in 2025 is Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz. The Premier League side are desperate to sign the German international, and to get a deal done, they are now willing to offer some players as makeweights in exchange for Wirtz. It is unclear who City are willing to offer at this stage and if they will be of interest to Leverkusen, but Wirtz is someone who is definitely on City’s radar.

Man City pushing to sign £42m Brazil midfielder

According to Caught Offside, Manchester City are now pushing to sign Atalanta’s Ederson as a replacement for the injured Rodri. The tough tackling 25-year-old has been one of the Italian side’s best-performing players in the last 18 months or so, as he’s helped Atalanta grow in Serie A and in Europe.

Ederson, who has been dubbed as having a “strong personality” by Tim Vickery, played a key role in Atalanta’s successful 2023/24 season, as he scored six goals in 36 Serie A games, and he played 12 times in the Europa League as the Italian side claimed the trophy.

His performances for Atalanta are not going unnoticed, as this report states that City are now pushing to bring him to the Etihad as Rodri’s replacement. The Blues have been without Rodri since he got injured in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in September and since then, City have won just four of their 10 Premier League games. The Spaniard has torn his cruciate ligament and is expected to miss the rest of the campaign, meaning a replacement is very much needed.

Ederson is emerging as City’s first choice to replace the Spaniard, and they are now expected to step up their efforts to sign the Brazilian. Liverpool are also interested in signing Ederson, but City are likely to beat them to the signing, as the player himself is “flattered” by the interest from the Blues.

It could cost the Premier League side around £42 million to get a deal done, as it was recently reported that Atalanta would be looking for around 50 million euros to let the midfielder leave.

France player ratings vs Croatia: Kylian Mbappe goes missing while Ibrahima Konate and William Saliba provide defensive disaster-class in Nations League loss

Real Madrid's star man failed to show up in Split as Les Bleus' centre-backs struggled to deal with the hosts' attacking threat

France face an uphill task to reach the Nations League semi-finals after a convincing 2-0 quarter-final first-leg loss to Croatia on Thursday.

The hosts should have taken the lead in the eighth minute, only for goalkeeper Mike Maignan to save Andrej Kramaric's tame penalty. Despite that setback, Croatia deservedly went in front 18 minutes later when Ante Budimir's header squirmed past Maignan from Ivan Perisic's inviting cross.

The lacklustre visitors struggled to fashion meaningful chances, and on the stroke of half-time it was 2-0 when Perisic lashed in an arrowed drive into the corner from 15 yards.

France showed signs of life early in the second half when Ousmane Dembele flashed a shot into the side netting, before stinging the hands of Dominik Livakovic soon after. Substitute Bradley Barcola also had a gilt-edged chance to pull a goal back, but he couldn't connect with Matteo Guendouzi's enticing delivery across the six-yard box.

Kylian Mbappe showed flashes of his quality, but they were too few and far between in front of a raucous home crowd in Split, and Didier Deschamps' side will need to be a lot better for the second leg of this quarter-final tie on Sunday.

Mike Maignan (7/10):

Saved his side once with a good penalty stop, but couldn't get France out of jail for Croatia's goals.

Jules Kounde (4/10):

Allowed 36-year-old Perisic too much time and space to fire in a cross that led to Croatia's opener. Was beaten on a number of occasions down the right and struggled aerially, too.

Ibrahima Konate (4/10):

Gave away a clumsy penalty and didn't look comfortable at the back. Was hooked at half-time after picking up a knock.

William Saliba (4/10):

The Arsenal centre-back didn't track Budimir's run closely enough for his goal. Not a convincing night.

Lucas Digne (5/10):

Did not offer a great deal in defence or attack early doors, but like much of his team-mates, looked more competent as Croatia were put under the cosh in the second period.

Matteo Guendouzi (5/10):

He was a passenger in the first half, but played some nice through balls as the game wore on. He and his fellow midfielders were outclassed by Modric.

Aurelien Tchouameni (6/10):

Was part of a midfield that was very much second-best in the opening 45 minutes, but got stuck in all the same.

Adrien Rabiot (4/10):

The game passed the experienced midfielder by and he could have no complaints when he was withdrawn.

Ousmane Dembele (6/10):

For someone in the form of his life, you would not know it by his first-half outing. Improved in the second and looked the most likely to score later on.

Randal Kolo Muani (5/10):

While he did not get much service at all, the Juventus loanee was anonymous at times.

Kylian Mbappe (5/10):

The Real Madrid star, who is firing for the Spanish giants, struggled to make an impact for long periods

AFPSubs & Manager

Dayot Upamecano (6/10):

Added a bit more solidity at the back when introduced after the break, but still picked up a card for his troubles.

Bradley Barcola (5/10):

Missed a huge chance shortly after coming on.

Eduardo Camavinga (6/10):

Improved France's midfield following his introduction.

Michael Olise (6/10):

Looked spritely off the bench.

Manu Kone (N/A):

Didn't have enough time to make an impact.

Didier Deschamps (5/10):

His team looked like a bunch of strangers for much of the first half and they didn't seem to have much of a strategy. They improved in the second half, but that was massively down to Croatia sitting back more. A tough night.

Rangers supporters everywhere are still ruing Sunday’s League Cup Final defeat, with Glasgow’s giants playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Hampden, with second-half equalisers from Mohamed Diomande and then Danilo forcing extra time and ultimately penalties for the Ibrox side.

In the shootout, someone has to miss and, unfortunately for those bedecked in red, white and blue, housed in the west end of the National Stadium, that man was Rıdvan Yılmaz, his tame effort easily kept out by Kasper Schmeichel, as Celtic once again hoisted aloft the trophy.

However, Philippe Clement’s team will soon be back in action, welcoming Dundee to Ibrox on Saturday, with a chance to exact revenge on their fiercest rivals right around the corner, given that the next Premiership Glasgow derby in Govan is coming up as soon as 2 January.

Speaking of January, the start of a new year also signals the opening of the transfer window, so could one of the most expensive players in the current Rangers squad be on the move next month?

Rangers forward could leave the club

As reported by Rob Laurens for French outlet Le Républicain Sportif, Saint-Étienne are considering a move for Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers in January.

Cyriel Dessers

Les Verts, ten-times French champions, are one of France’s biggest clubs but, following promotion via the play-offs, are currently embroiled in a relegation battle, sat third bottom of Ligue 1, having lost six of their last eight, including three on the spin, hence why les Stéphanois are seeking attacking reinforcements.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

In terms of Dessers, his career has already taken him to various Belgian and Dutch clubs, as well as one season in Italy, arriving in Glasgow to much excitement for a not insubstantial £4.5m fee in July 2023.

Then manager Michael Beale stated at the time that “Cyriel pushed extremely hard to make this transfer a reality”, but his time with the Light Blues since has been, at best, mixed.

Why Rangers should cash in on Cyriel Dessers

On paper, Dessers has scored 34 goals in 80 appearances for the Gers, which is not too bad at all.

He’s bagged 12 goals this season, on target at Celtic Park last May as well as in European fixtures against Servette, Real Betis, Dynamo Kyiv and, most recently, Olympiacos.

However, the Nigerian has also garnered a reputation for squandering big chances.

He’s taken 144 shots to score 27 times in the Premiership and UEFA competitions while, also according to FBref.com, his xG figure across five Europa League fixtures this season is four, with this yielding just a solitary goal so far.

Following the draw in Piraeus in early November, in which he did equalise, Dessers joked that if he scored every single chance that came his way he “probably would not be at Rangers”, but could that become reality as soon as January?

In recent weeks, Clement has made the bold call to drop Dessers, leaving him on the bench for the last five matches, with Hamza Igamane repaying his manager’s faith by scoring five times in his last six appearances, with the Moroccan very much the man in form.

So, how do Rangers’ attacking options compare to one another?

Given that Igamane, Černý and Bajrami only arrived this summer, and Danilo’s time at the club has been blighted by injury, they’ve all played significantly fewer minutes than Dessers.

However, on a per-90 basis, the Nigerian is being outperformed by both of the other two natural centre-forward options, namely Igamane and Danilo, suggesting it may be time to cash in.

During the summer, it was reported by Graeme McGarry for the National that Dessers turned down the chance to join Atlanta United, with the MLS outfit bidding £4.5m for his services, having just sold former-Celtic centre-forward Giorgos Giakoumakis to Cruz Azul for close to double that.

This time, should Saint-Étienne, or anyone else for that matter, put a similar amount of money on the table for Dessers, Rangers should do everything they can to facilitate his exit.

Rangers could finally sell Dessers with move for "incredibly prolific" star

The Glasgow Rangers manager could move on from Cyriel Dessers by signing this striker.
