Last season, they finished second, but were 10 points behind eventual champions Liverpool.

The Gunners are also enduring mixed fortunes in the transfer window. While they have secured a deal to sign Noni Madueke from Chelsea, they have yet to add a striker, despite lengthy talks with Sporting CP over Viktor Gyokeres. Of course, there is the potential that rival fans have daubed the graffiti, but it reflects a growing idea that the Spaniard needs to enjoy a successful 2025/26 season.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Fans have actually started a petition against the potential signing of Madueke, with it receiving more than 4,000 signatures. It is unlikely to have any effect, and he is poised to join Kepa, Christian Norgaard, and Martin Zubimendi as new signings at the Emirates this summer.

Revealed: Rasmus Hojlund's role under Ruben Amorim if Man Utd complete Benjamin Sesko deal as Red Devils aim to increase firepower

Ruben Amorim has devised a special plan for Rasmus Hojlund if Manchester United complete the signing of Benjamin Sesko deal from RB Leipzig. United are closing in on the signing of Sesko, with the club’s hierarchy now actively negotiating with the German side over a £70 million ($92m) deal.

  • United pushing to land Sesko

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According toSesko's potential switch to Old Trafford is not viewed as a replacement for Hojlund. Instead, Amorim sees this acquisition as an opportunity to enhance his squad’s firepower and bring the best out of both young forwards.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

It has been stressed that Hojlund remains an integral part of the team’s future, particularly after his recent standout performance in the 4-1 pre-season victory over Bournemouth at Soldier Field, where he scored twice. He is expected to thrive alongside Sesko, with Amorim believing that genuine competition for the striker role could serve as a powerful motivator for the 22-year-old.

  • TELL ME MORE

Amorim's confidence stems in part from his track record of nurturing rising stars into prolific attackers. While at Sporting Lisbon, he transformed Viktor Gyokeres into a clinical and dominant presence up front. The Portuguese coach now sees a similar opportunity with Sesko. Standing at 6ft 5in, the 21-year-old has the physical tools and raw ability that Amorim believes he can sharpen into a lethal offensive weapon for United.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Amorim views Sesko as the explosive element currently lacking in United’s forward line. The Slovenian’s blend of size, athleticism, and technical ability fits perfectly into Amorim’s tactical plans for a more dynamic, multi-dimensional attacking system. At the same time, the Portuguese boss sees the new arrival as a catalyst that will help Hojlund push past the mental hurdles that affected his consistency last season.

Jonathan Tah reveals 'daily ritual' that helps him live 'clearer and happier' as Bayern Munich defender explains how he deals with racism

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Bayern Munich defender gave personal insights in an interview with the club magazine opening up on his experiences with racism in Germany and how he deals with them. Additionally, he also shared that he is a firm believer in journaling, as he writes down his goals every morning in what he described as a "daily ritual."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tah has been a prominent figure in German football’s fight against racism, both on and off the pitch. Back in March 2025, the former Bayer Leverkusen player admitted that he experienced covert racism in everyday life due to his Ivorian roots, although his mother is German. "Unfortunately, this happens very, very often. It's almost standard," he said in an interview with at the time.

  • WHAT JONATHAN TAH SAID

Tah mentioned that he writes down his goals for the day every morning and reviews his experiences in writing every evening. He said: “It's not so much about what I've achieved, but much more about experiences I'm grateful for. Some time ago, I realised for myself: the more consciously I live, the greater my clarity – and the happier I am. When I consciously approach life, I understand more: how am I feeling right now? What's on my mind – and why? This daily journal is daily feedback to myself. Because everything is so fast these days: the internet, social media, distractions of all kinds. We're often far too little in touch with ourselves and our values. This daily ritual brings me back to myself, at least for a moment."

Tah also tried to express his personal feelings, especially when it comes to "supposedly taboo topics" such as racism. “Because I don't think we should shy away from supposedly taboo issues," the Germany international said. "We need to talk about it openly, including being open about our feelings. I'm someone who always tries to show and explain my feelings because it's important that others understand how I feel about them. When I met my wife, who is German-Italian, she wasn't aware of a lot of things, such as everyday racism. She couldn't really understand certain things. And it was extremely important that I explained to her how I feel in certain situations and why some things hurt me. She wouldn't have known otherwise. That's why I think it's so important to talk about it openly."

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle have endured a dismal window thus far, missing out on multiple targets, including Yoane Wissa and James Trafford. The club are desperate to sign a new defender, but have met with frustration in their pursuit of Giorgio Scalvini, and are, as such, considering reigniting their interest in Guehi, for whom they saw three bids rejected last summer.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Guehi is valued at £50m ($67m) by Palace but Newcastle would rather pay closer to £40m. Given their inability to land top targets, they may well be forced to pay the fee given Howe's desire to strengthen. Thus far, they have signed Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Guehi has been a Palace stalwart since 2021 but his contract expires next summer, somewhat weakening the Eagles' bargaining position. Liverpool are also interested, but they are, naturally, focusing their attention on Alexander Isak, who could still leave St James' Park to move to Anfield; another factor in what has been a perilous window for the Magpies.

'Audacity to complain about criticism?' – Taylor Twellman calls out Christian Pulisic for response to media scrutiny, says USMNT star invited critiques by skipping Gold Cup

The former MLS star knocked the USMNT’s current generation, claiming they have abandoned their identity and become overly sensitive

  • Twellman says the team lost work ethic, determination
  • Contrasted 2014 World Cup ambition with current team
  • Says U.S. players face far less pressure
  • Getty Images Sport

    WHAT HAPPENED

Addressing the ongoing tension between current USMNT players and critics, Apple TV analyst Taylor Twellman said that, while he believes Christian Pulisic is committed to the USMNT, his decision to skip the Gold Cup and the way he handled the announcement opened him up to fair criticism.

Pulisic maintains he made the right decision to withdraw from the summer tournament, and called out critics – especially former men's national team players – who questioned his passion. His father and several USMNT teammates also defended him in the latest episodes of the PULISIC docuseries.

"Let’s make this abundantly clear: the question of Christian Pulisic and his commitment to the national team was completely off base. He’s always been committed, and he still will be committed. That’s not what we’re talking about here, but that’s what got Pulisic and his family upset," Twellman said on the Dan Le Batard show. “He could have nipped it in the bud, immediately releasing a statement of why he’s not playing in the Gold Cup and that is what US Soccer expected…

"It’s nobody on the outside’s fault that they are reacting, and doing their job at the same time of giving their opinion of the situation that’s going on."

The former New England Revolution star pointed to the 2014 World Cup team as the last American squad that embodied the characteristic grit and determination that defined previous generations.

“But the reality is that the identity is no longer ‘We’re gonna outwork you, we’re going to have a dog in this fight, we’re going to roll up our sleeves and do whatever we can to beat you,' " Twellman said. “Now we’re questioning whether or not you have that. And in 2014 World Cup when the United States tied Portugal – and should have won – they barely lost to Belgium even though Tim Howard made 15, 16 saves, most saves ever. The question then, which is about 11 years ago, is how can the United States Men compete with the top 10 countries in the world?

"But over the last two years, this generation lost a Copa America, couldn’t advance in the group stage in their backyard. They lost to Canada back-to-back, they’ve lost to Panama in three straight games and not gotten a result all in their backyard, all going into a World Cup. And you have the audacity to complain about criticism?"

His criticism extended beyond results to the players' responses, as he expressed dismay at their complaints about media scrutiny.

“Imagine if you were from Argentina, or England or Brazil or Germany – the amount of pressure that would be on you, that’s where you lose me," he said. "I've got to… talk about are the players committed to going into a World Cup in their backyard in the biggest moment of their lives – and we’re talking about a docuseries where the analysts outside are being called evil. They have completely lost the plot to me and they’ve created this on their own.”
