Leeds fans have their say on Aleksandar Mitrovic after hat-trick for Fulham

Every club in the Championship would probably do anything to have a striker like Aleksandar Mitrovic at their disposal. It should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that the Serbian is at the top of the Championship scoring charts this season as he’s scored 11 goals for Fulham after just 13 games. One team that would certainly love to have a player like Mitrovic is Leeds United.Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Whites are crying out for a top-quality striker as Patrick Bamford has now gone eight games without scoring for the Yorkshire club.

Leeds create so many chances and fashion 16.9 shots per game so it’s incredible to imagine the number of goals the Serbian would score if he was playing under Marcelo Bielsa.

After Mitrovic’s hat-trick against Luton Town on Wednesday night a number of Leeds fans took to Twitter to exclaim how much they’d love to have the £22.5m-rated man at Elland Road.

Here’s what the Leeds fanbase have been saying on social media…

Celtic get in the spirit of things with a scary Halloween prank

Ah, Halloween.

It’s that time of year again when you’re stripped of all your worth, one pack of gummy bears a time, and when your doorbell batteries need replacing because it’s been throttled by at least 1,000,000 pairs of sticky hands.

October 31st is just about the only date in the calendar that “scaring” people or knocking on their doors to demand sugary goodness, or a packet of raisins (good memories), is deemed acceptable. To heck with your ‘no soliciting’ stickers, prepare yourselves to be solicited. And the fact that your lights are off and curtains are closed is inconsequential – children will still hammer your door down like a sugar frenzied police raid.

There’s nothing particularly spooky about Celtic’s current position at the top of the table, nor their recent form in cup competitions, but getting into the Halloween spirit, the club decided to pull off a simple but effective prank on a number of their players.

Scary stuff…

Man City fans react to Erling Braut Haaland transfer report

Manchester City fans have expressed their desire to see Erling Braut Haaland join the club following a report from The Guardian.

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that City are amongst 20 clubs seeking the striker’s signature. Other clubs mentioned are gargantuan sides such as Juventus, Manchester United and the Spanish giants.

Haaland has become one of the most wanted men in Europe this season after a truly remarkable start to this campaign. The Norwegian has an astonishing 22 goals in 15 appearances across the board, and his six goals in the Champions League put him as the top scorer in the competition.

Fans are desperate to see the RB Salzburg man join the club, with one fan even saying “spend 500 mil”. Other supporters have alluded to City’s nature to cross the ball into the box lately, and how the likes of Kevin De Bruyne would rack up the assists should the 6ft 3 striker be there.

Another fan has even looked into the future at how he could be a replacement for Sergio Aguero.

At just 19 years old, one European giant could have a goalscoring machine on their hands for years and years with Haaland.

City fans are hoping that it is they who prize him away…

Sheffield United’s January intentions must be on a poacher, says Stan Collymore

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

What more harm could one more do?

Well, not a lot of harm, but it’s still something that Sheffield United shouldn’t bother themselves with.

There are a lot of men all eyeing a spot in the starting line-up at Bramall Lane, but according to Stan Collymore, there’s still room for one more.

What’s he said?

Writing in The Daily Mirror (Print edition, 5/11/19, Page 51), Collymore felt that although their defence has been superb, a lack of goals could well see the Blades fall off. As a result, he’s suggested bringing someone to add an extra couple of goals to see them over the line:

“Sheffield United were one of my tips for relegation and, of course, that might still happen. Defensively, they are conceding 0.75 goals a game — Champions League percentages — and what they need now is to push on from a very solid start.

“To do that they need more goals and if they get them they will be safe. I’d imagine a loan striker will be top of Wilder’s Christmas wish-list because if they can get a poacher of Jermain Defoe’s calibre — all relegation bets will be off.”

Too many chefs spoiling the broth

Should Sheffield United really go through the effort of trying to sign someone like that for what might only end up being one or two goals throughout the season?

It just doesn’t make any sense.

As has been pointed out earlier, there are far too many men already for them to choose from, and unless there is a mass exodus in the window, it wouldn’t be wise to add another one into the mix.

Collymore makes reference to Defoe and although he has a wonderful Premier League record, bagging 163 goals in 496 games, it would feel like a waste of wages to bring in an added attacking player. After all, only top quality would be an upgrade on the options they currently have and it’s unlikely they’ll find that in January.

Collymore isn’t talking about bringing in 20 goal a year player, just someone who can provide 4 or 5 to take them over the edge and keep them out of trouble.

Find out which Premier League newcomer is a future England boss in the making in the video below…

Someone like Billy Sharp has been a reliable source of goals for the Blades down the years, with 103 of them in 250 games (via Transfermarkt), so if they find themselves laking goals from the likes of Lys Mousset and Oliver McBurnie in the first team, why not go with someone that you know can get you goals.

It’s a risk-free method and wouldn’t do them any great harm.

There’s no point in spending money just for the sake of it.

Liverpool fans feel Jurgen Klopp had ulterior motives with tactical change vs Genk

A selection of Liverpool fans seemed to have felt Jurgen Klopp had ulterior motives when he brought Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita off in their Champions League win over KRC Genk on Tuesday night.

The pair were named in the Reds’ starting line-up, but saw their evenings cut short when Klopp made a double change in the 74th-minute and introduced Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had given Liverpool their second go-ahead goal of the tie early into the second-half, when he drove a low shot into the bottom corner on the turn for the would-be match-winner.

He had begun the game as the de facto striker, as part of a frontline with Divock Origi and Mohamed Salah, from where he would attempt a total of three shots, all from inside the box.

The 33-cap England international also made 22 of his 44 passes in the final third, as well as completing three of his six dribbles, per WhoScored data.

As for Keita, he began the UCL affair on the left-hand side of Klopp’s midfield three, and would end the night with 87 touches, 35 forward passes including one key one, four tackles and five shots, again via WhoScored.

A percentage of Liverpool fans reacted to their club’s tweet announcing Klopp’s double change in the 74th-minute by suggesting the call was with Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City in mind.

Liverpool will host Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues at Anfield this weekend, with a win enough to open a nine-point lead at the top of the table.

Here are some of the messages shared…

Spurs should thank England for Dele Alli omission

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Dele Alli is not in the England squad.

The Three Lions will play Montenegro on Thursday and then face Kosovo on Sunday.

Gareth Southgate’s side should win both games; they beat the former 5-1 away from home and the latter 5-3 at home earlier in qualification.

Thus, one has to believe that the Tottenham Hotspur star’s absence can only be a good thing for both Spurs and Alli.

Indeed, he has played an awful lot of football in recent seasons.

He has already made 10 appearances this term, taking his tally for Spurs to 194. This is a 23-year-old who battled a hamstring injury last season and at the beginning of 2019/20, but he is selected as regularly as possible by Mauricio Pochettino.

For England, too, he was once a guaranteed starter. He has won 37 caps since 2015, playing all four games at Euro 2016, making five appearances at the 2018 World Cup and also playing in both UEFA Nations League finals matches.

This is now the second England squad he has been left out of, though, and one feels that giving Alli a rest – however brief – could do wonders for his form.

He has made 282 senior club appearances in his career, including his time at MK Dons, and has won 54 caps, including those won at youth level.

He is essentially burning out.

Think of the progression he has had since the 2015/16 season. He made 46 appearances in all competitions and then four more at the Euros, before returning in 2016/17 to make 50 more. He had that summer off purely due to scheduling, then played another 50 times for Spurs, went to the World Cup, came back, made 38 appearances, played in the Nations League, and is in double-figures for this season already.

It is relentless and it takes a toll.

Critics have said that Alli has “lost his hunger” and that he is playing poorly, but he could well be remodelling his game to limit the toll it can take on his body.

That isn’t losing your hunger, that’s just good sense.

His absence from England, then, has to be a boost for Spurs. He now has a fortnight to prepare for the clash with West Ham United and his club will need him to be at his best if they are to pick up all three points.

It is unlikely to make up for years of being worked to the bone, but it should at least keep him fresh; Spurs have Gareth Southgate to thank for that.

Darrent Bent is surprised Everton haven’t tried to sign Alfredo Morelos

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Darren Bent has spoken of his surprise at not seeing Everton make a move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, as reported by Football Insider.

What did he say?

The Colombian striker has been in incredible scoring form this season, already getting 22 goals across the SPFL, Scottish Cup and Europa League from just 19 starts and 7 substitute appearances.

It is arguably his record in Europe that has been most eye-catching, as he already has 11 goals and 4 assists from 10 starts and 2 substitute appearances, a tally that includes 2 goals and an assist in two games against Porto.

Speaking of the Colombian striker, Bent told Football Insider: “I’m surprised Everton don’t try to go and sign him, he’s a bit temperamental, but he can score goals.

“He’s got the great ability and to be fair to Rangers if they can go and get a load of money for him, let’s say £20m+ for him, they’ve still got Jermain Defoe, who gets goals week-in-week-out.”

Hard to argue

It is difficult to go against Bent’s way of thinking, as a move for Morelos would make sense from an Everton point of view.

This comment comes shortly after it was reported that the Toffees are looking to sign Goncalo Paciencia from Eintracht Frankfurt.

While the Portugal international could certainly be a good addition to Marco Silva’s side, Morelos is someone who has been in and amongst the goals this season, having also bagged 30 across all competitions term.

Everton haven’t had a player who has scored 15 goals in all competitions across a season since Romelu Lukaku left, so they should be looking to sign a player such as Morelos, who has shown how prolific he can be.

It would be easy to say that his goals are worth less because they came in Scotland, but his European return should dispel that argument.

His disciplinary record has also been questionable in the past, but there are even signs that is improving, as he is yet to be sent off this season, picking up five yellow cards so far.

Liverpool are said to be interested in Karim Adeyemi

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Transfermarkt, Liverpool are interested in signing Karim Adeyemi.

What’s the story?

The German U17 international has a number of potential suitors. Along with Liverpool, Arsenal are also said to be pursuing the teenager, as are Borussia Dortmund.

It is Barcelona, though, who currently lead the way, and the Catalan club are even said to have made a €15m (£12.8m) offer for the RB Salzburg player, who is currently on loan at FC Liefering in Austria’s second tier.

[ad_pod ]

Roberto Firmino-like

Adeyemi is still at the start of his professional career, having played just 31 games at senior level. After all, he doesn’t turn 18 until January of next year. But he has excelled in front of goal during that time. He has yet to make his debut for Salzburg after signing from SpVgg Unterhaching, but he spent last season, as well as this one, on loan at Liefering.

He has done well, too. So far, he has made 28 starts for the club, scoring 11 goals in the process. He also bagged twice in three games for Salzburg’s U19 team in the UEFA Youth League. Not only that, but the youngster also has five goals in 13 appearances for Germany’s various youth levels.

Interestingly, he has also proven himself to be a good provider for his teammates. He has almost picked up as many assists – eight – as he has goals for the Austrian side. Four of which have come in just 11 outings this term. Much like Roberto Firmino, albeit over a period a lot shorter. The Brazil international has 69 goals for Liverpool, but also 55 assists, and it is often his underrated teamwork that contributes to the Anfield outfit’s success rather than his goalscoring capability.

€15m (£12.8m) would be a bit of a gamble considering he is so young and has only played in the second tier. But, given the similarities stats-wise to Firmino, it could be a transfer that would pay off in the future. Aged 28, the former Hoffenheim man won’t be around forever, and Jurgen Klopp will need to plan ahead at some point. Adeyemi could be a long-term option for the 52-year-old.

Aston Villa fans demand for Gareth Southgate to call up Jack Grealish

Aston Villa ended a run of three consecutive league defeats by beating Newcastle United 2-0 on Monday evening.

It was a goal and assist from Conor Hourihane that secured the points for Dean Smith’s side, but Jack Grealish certainly played his part in earning the victory as well.

[ad_pod ]

Villareport offered some statistics to show just how effective he was during a win that saw the team jump up to 15th in the Premier League table.

He also made a contribution for the opening goal of the game, stopping the ball as part of Hourihane’s free-kick routine that came off so delightfully.

Villa fans were full of compliments for their captain following the game, as he continued his impressive form since helping Villa get back into top tier football.

As well as the applause from supporters, Chris Sutton called his performance “outstanding, wonderful to watch” on Twitter.

So far, Grealish has managed four goals and four assists in 11 Premier League starts and two Carabao Cup substitute appearances.

While there is obvious joy at how well the homegrown talent has done for the club, there is also a tinge of frustration for Villa fans.

That is because of the fact that Grealish is still being ignored by Gareth Southgate for a place in the England squad, even with Tyrone Mings and Tom Heaton being picked since joining Villa in the summer.

The Villa talisman made seven appearances for England U21s, scoring twice against Guinea, but is yet to make his debut for the senior side.

In other news, a former Villa man has made a recommendation for who they should sign in January.

Wolves could receive a timely Willy Boly boost in the near future

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Injury News series, which considers the impact of the latest updates on players’ fitness.

Wolverhampton Wanderers could soon call on their colossus centre-back Willy Boly after club captain Conor Coady offered a hugely positive update on the 28-year-old.

What’s the word?

As one of Nuno Santo’s favourite options in defence, Boly has played 16 matches in all competitions, missing just one match through suspension before picking up what appeared to be a very severe injury.

The Frenchman fractured his fibula in training and had surgery at the end of October.

An expected timeframe for his return was February at the very earliest but he was seen at Molineux over the weekend without a protective boot.

Now Coady’s comments only add further encouragement – speaking to the Express & Star, he said:

“He is doing fantastic, he really is. He works so hard to get himself back fit. He works long days and he is now walking.

“I’m not a physio but he looks like he is ahead of schedule.

“His ankle looks brilliant so hopefully, everyone has their fingers crossed that he will be back as soon as possible.”

January boost?

It could come as a very timely boost given Nuno’s struggles to name a settled defence since his injury. It’s at the point where two midfielders, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker, have had to fill in as he clearly cannot trust Jesus Vallejo or any of the youth prospects yet.

Birmingham Live revealed that the club were going to try and sign a centre-back in January and that was before Boly’s injury, so there is even more pressure on them to find the right man next month.

However, the burden can be severely reduced if the 28-year-old is closer to a return than expected.

Initially, it was thought he’d be out until the end of January/February so this would be incredibly timely both from a financial and playing perspective.

And while it is clear that Wolves need an addition at centre-back next month, Boly’s return could give them more time to consider the correct choice, meaning they can avoid being panicked into the first deal on the table or risk overspending as a result.
